Aloeride aloe vera: running far ahead

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Aloeride® dosage

Aloeride® aloe vera capsules are best taken away from food (some 30-45 minutes before and some 60 minutes after) and with ample of water. Dosing is no hard science - as true for prescription drugs as it is for a food supplement like Aloeride® - because often this is dictated by results which may vary from one individual to another. Start off with a likely beneficial dose and take it from there:
1 capsule a day (1cps first thing in the morning or 1cps last thing at night) = maintenance dosage for adults who use Aloeride® aloe vera for general wellbeing, or digestive tract/skin issues when any dietary sensitivities are well managed but a buffer is considered useful.
2 capsules a day (1cps first thing in the morning and 1cps last thing at night or 2cps in the morning or 2cps at night) = adult dosage when the digestive tract or skin is compromised. Because aloe vera's effect lasts for 24hrs, with most of this occurring during the first 12hrs, there is no need to get into a flap about exactly at what hour to take Aloeride® aloe vera, just divide it (evenly if possible) over the 24hrs.
3 capsules a day (2cps in the morning and 1cps at night, or 1cps in the morning and 2cps at night, or 1cps in morning, 1 midday and 1 at night) = adult dosage when the digestive tract or skin is significantly compromised particularly when inflammation and/or discomfort is present.
4 capsules a day (2cps in the morning and 2cps at night, or 2cps in morning, 1cps midday and 1cps at night) = when 3cps a day is not enough, few people will require this dosage and beyond 4cps/day you ingest more beta-linked polysaccharides than there are likely to be binding sites for them, so you would be wasting Aloeride®.
From the age of 12 onwards children take adult dosages, up to that age it may be sensible to ratio their weight to that of an average adult (75kg) and use a proportion of the adult dosage.

Can I overdose on Aloeride®?

The world’s greatest expert on aloe vera Dr. Ivan E. Danhof PhD MD wrote to us that, once all polysaccharide receptor sites in the digestive tract have been saturated by the aloe sugars, any remaining dosage simply passes through the alimentary canal and does no harm. The dosage to achieve this limit is approximately 500mg and equates to 3 Aloeride® aloe vera capsules for adults (possibly four if someone has more receptor sites). Our youngest user was less than 1 year old and it is very reassuring to know that, even in such a small child, it is impossible to overdose, what doesn't bind to the child's receptor sites simply leaves his/her alimentary canal.
For reference: Dr. Danhof has impeccable credentials namely a B.Sc. in Biology and Chemistry, a M.Sc. in Nutrition and Microbiology, a Ph.D. in Physiology, and a Medical Degree with specialties in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Danhof is a retired Professor of Physiology at the University of Texas who has written 80 research papers throughout his career. Additionally, he served as a Fulbright Scholar in Afghanistan investigating Botanical Medicine.

How old does one have to be to use Aloeride®?

William Baxter had multiple problems since he was 2 weeks old, among which problematic feeding, projectile vomiting and multiple aversions. Medication helped a little and feeding via a stoma was tolerated only in tiny, 10mL helpings. He was failing to thrive and was not even 1 year old when he started on Aloeride® aloe vera capsules. "William has used Aloeride® for 5 months now and from day 1 it was obvious that he became a different child. We are really very happy."
One sad thing was that William's parents were told by the Consultant Paediatrician in no uncertain terms that the baby needed milk to grow strong. Yet cow's milk had been the one constant in all the feeding formulas they tried and all failed to be tolerated. My advice to try an alternative milk like Rice Dream did not weigh up against that of the pediatrician. The dosage of Aloeride® used for this baby was half the capsule's powder twice a day. It should be noted that taking Aloeride® capsules at this age is of course quite unusual but, because of the absence of additives or laxative anthraquinones, Aloeride® was a perfectly safe option that clearly made a difference.

Aren’t aloe vera juice or gel products better than powder in a capsule?

This is a very common misconception. The magic of aloe vera is NOT in the water (that is 95% of aloe vera juice) but in the 5% working molecules that makes up their ‘solids’. Aloeride® delivers only that 5% of working molecules that represents the magic of aloe vera. You see, from the independent laboratory tests on www.aloeride.eu, it is utterly clear that being a liquid or a powder is not the critical factor in respect of how good it is. One company sells a powder product labeled as ‘high strength aloe vera tablets’ and their Methanol Precipitated value is 120mg/L which is just terrible. Another company sells aloe liquid with a Methanol Precipitated value of 3,920 mg/L but 98% of those molecules are too short chain to have any value. What giving two percent working solids means is this, massively fewer working molecules than good manufacturing practice can achieve. Now back to water, keeping the water in makes aloe vera an ideal medium for bacterial degradation, it stops you from carrying aloe around so you cannot use it when you need it, every time you open the bottle new air comes in so oxidation takes place, it becomes heavier to post.  Saying that aloe vera juice or gel is better than powder amounts to serious misinformation. What is true is that among both fluid and powder products you will find good and bad products. So, is Aloeride® the best? Yes, not based on possibly biased opinion, but on quality control every step along the way and test results freely available for all of you to see.

Does Aloeride® contain Manapol?

Yes Aloeride® aloe vera contains these molecules. Manapol® is a product made by Carrington Laboratories in the USA and Manapol® powder consists of roughly 25% acetylated mannans, 25% pectins, 25% methylcellulose, and 25% calcium malate. Aloe polysaccharides consist of linear (unbranched) chains of beta-1-4-linked glucose and mannose molecules: owing to the presence of these two simple hexose sugars, they are also called glucomannans, and because there is considerably more mannose than glucose present, they are also sometimes called polymannans. Turn the last word around and you know where the name Manapol® might come from. To the question whether Aloeride® aloe vera contains such polymannans - the answer is yes Aloeride® does -  I refer you to the detailed information of the independent laboratory tests. The first product test you will see is about our Aloeride®, now mouse over the figures 2.0 x 106 and 1.0 x 106 and 4.80 x 105 and you can read (on golden background) about the different polysaccharide lengths there are in our Aloeride® and the %s thereof. So the answer is a resounding YES and you will have noticed that our polysaccharides profile is superior to all of the products (those that qualified for this) we had tested.

Can I use Aloeride® whilst on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet?

Yes you can, and more to the point, you should use Aloeride® when on the SCD. Research (Bland 1985) shows beyond a shadow of doubt that it will improve your bacterial flora [6 out of 10 improve stool microbiology], it will reduce your gut permeability [significant drop in Indican levels], it will reduce stool specific gravity and it will improve the gut pH [favourable environment for the good bacteria growth within double fermented yoghurt or Probion® Daily. Note that aloe vera sugar molecules (glucomannans, polymannoses, glycoproteins) are linked in beta-configuration and those links cannot be broken by digestive enzymes. Via pinocytosis these polysaccharide molecules enter the blood stream uncleaved. They do not become fodder for bad bacteria like the uncleaved, alpha-linked food poly/tri/disaccharides do. Aloeride® has an unrivalled, exemplary polysaccharide profile and this, together with an exemplary amount of working ingredients, makes it ideal for people with digestive disorders and this includes everybody on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

How quickly will I notice a difference ?

Two queries in 2008 definitely made me wonder - with respect - whether people think Aloeride® walks over water. So I thought it would be a good idea to talk about this.

The surface area of your small intestine when laid out flat has the size of a tennis court; and your large intestine has a surface area about 1/30th that size. Small and large in the names obviously refer to their diameter and not their surface area! So it is a massive area to placate when this gets upset. Many people use Aloeride® aloe vera because of digestive issues, varying widely from IBS to Crohn’s to Ulcerative Colitis. Gastroenterologists will readily confirm that such conditions are not necessarily easily managed, not with prescribed medication, not with diet, not with lifestyle changes. So Aloeride®, however exemplary this is made (and it is), it cannot be a golden bullet for everybody.

Yes we do hear amazing stories from people using Aloeride®, but it is realistic to bear in mind that not all upsets are quickly stabilised. One of our customers for instance had fully medically investigated IBS for many years, usually associated with a degree of nausea. He had been using Aloeride® for 6 months and recently rang me to say that also the nausea has gone (other than introducing Aloeride® nothing else in his regime had changed). Such a telephone conversation brightens my day and what a happy reward for his patience & perseverance. It can take a while before your digestive tract gets onto an even keel, so please be patient.

And note that a multipronged approach - with Aloeride® as one player - tends to be more successful than putting all your eggs into (any) one basket. By this I do not only mean Aloeride® + diet change for instance, it can equally mean Aloeride® + diet change + less maintenance steroids for instance. Needing Prescription Only Medication can be a fact of life, very nice if you can get away with using as little of it as possible. No gastroenterologist will be unhappy about you needing less steroids because any future crisis (if it happens) can then be managed with a lower steroid dosage. I am very much in favour of the multifaceted approach as you can read from my various web pages.

The latest query I received via the Contact Form showed again the reward of persistence: "I have been taking Aloeride® for a couple of years, originally in desperate combat against IBD and for a long while now as maintenance, one a day. Amazing ! Now I need some advice about our eight month old grand daughter, who was born with a digestive problem, later diagnosed as GERD".  Like the gentleman with the long history of IBS, patience paid off for Chris and his quality of life improved dramatically.

Glasnost as we are as a company, I also thought to show you this e-mail: "Not really a question - I bought your product hoping to help my IBS - so far not much difference - but was also suffering from very dry, itchy skin. Really chronic. This has completely disappeared since using product. Now I do not use antihistamine and skin lotions. Juanita." Sometimes improvement doesn't happen in the order in which you expect it to happen, and sometimes it happens in a sequence that seemingly doesn't make sense, and sometimes it helps 3 symptoms but not the 4th one. Often that proves to be a matter of perseverance but sometimes Aloeride®, for all its wonderful qualities, just doesn't push the right buttons. When problems are multifaceted one is bound to meet situations that do not respond, and this is true for Prescription Only medication (POM), Over The Counter medication (OTC) and natural remedies.

Coming back to Aloeride® and walking over water, I want to avoid people with chronic (longstanding) issues tippy toeing into just 1 pack of Aloeride® and expecting immediate results. Please allow for a longer evaluation time, more freedom with dosage, because golden bullets are the exception rather than the norm in long term issues. We give you  20% multipack discount to help you financially in that longer-term perspective and I say this to you with my stethoscope around my neck. Our discounts are not a commercial gimmick but based on years in practice.

About pharmaceutical and food cGMP

Early 2008 the Dutch Authorities KAG/KOAG informed us that our food supplement Aloeride® could not be labelled as being made to pharmaceutical standard because this would confuse the consumer. With Aloeride® also requiring a MHRA license by 2011 (the UK using the same EU regulations) we had to change tack.

Consequently, as from December 2008 the encapsulation of Aloeride® aloe vera is to food supplement cGMP* (achieved ISO Class 8, Class 100,000, i.e. clean room standard the former pharmaceutical clinical trial company worked to) with capsule fill variability closely approximating pharmaceutical standard. Blister packing meets cGMP standards as set out in “Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors 2002” (The Orange Guide). Quality control of the Aloeride® aloe vera powder continues to our strict laboratory procedures and standards. So, as from December 2008 Aloeride® packaging will no longer mention ‘pharmaceutical standard’.

Outsourcing to different companies changed our capsule fill technology and this reaped one unexpected benefit, our capsule content is now 100% Aloeride® aloe vera powder so doesn’t even contain a minimum of inert flow agents anymore.

Can one develop a tolerance to Aloeride®?

The 'tolerance' referred to in this question happens in homeopathic remedies whereby one's body gets accustomed to the homeopathic 'signal'. The body gets 'bored' with that same signal so reduces it's response to that signal, thus the remedy becomes less effective. In electro-stimulation of neurons such fading is called Wedenski inhibition and this can be overcome by changing to 2 frequencies; keeping to 1 stimulatory frequency causes the neurological response to fade. This is the sort of 'tolerance' referred to in this question.
How likely do you think you are to develop such 'tolerance' to carrots, broccoli or the vitamins and minerals within runner beans. You are not, are you. In similar fashion, the molecules within the food supplement Aloeride® do what they do, they bind to polysaccharide binding sites, enter the blood stream intact via pinocytosis and other molecules within Aloeride® like Chromium, Magnesium or Calcium are absorbed through the intestinal villi. Molecules within Aloeride® aloe vera do not send out just a signal upon which the body responds, they simply provide food nutrients that the body uses. Fuel for the furnace. Consequently you can and should take Aloeride® for as long as you like, your response will not fade. Same applies to your carrots, broccoli and runner beans.
